Lavoro e identità personale

E’ opportuno analizzare il rapporto tra il concetto di lavoro e la personalità in un individuo ed i meccanismi psicologici che il lavoro sollecita nell’arco della vita di una persona.

 Sono un cuoco qualificato, specialista (non riconosciuto) in vitto, traduttore, scritore, fotografo, barista e gamer. Per esser tutto questo ho studiato, ho superato esami, ho creato, ho rinunciato, ho pagato, ho letto ho sacrificato. Tuttavia, quando qualcuno mi chiede “che cosa fai nella vita?”, trovo una certa difficoltà a rispondere. Qual è la mia reale occupazione? Chi lo decide? Quale lavoro mi identifica? Quello che mi garantisce maggiore guadagno? O quello per cui impegno più tempo? O quello che mi piace di più fare? Le risposte non coincidono.

l’identità fa riferimento a chi l’individuo pensa di essere e che annuncia al mondo in parole e azioni. Definirsi in base alla propria funzione vuol dire in qualche modo affermare che noi siamo il nostro lavoro. Ecco perché il lavoro stesso influenza l’individuo e lo sviluppo della sua personalità ed è l’elemento essenziale per costituire la propria identità individuale.

Basta pensare al nostro parlare quotidiano, quando conosciamo persone nuove tra le prime informazioni affermiamo “chi siamo” nei termini di “cosa facciamo” nella vita. Questo indica proprio come l’attività lavorativa svolta da ciascuno sia un potente indicatore di molte qualità personali e sociali per gli altri, ma soprattutto per noi stessi. E se una persona non ha lavoro? Se non ha una funzione che lo identifica? I ruoli formano la consapevolezza di ciò che siamo, dunque è inevitabile una crisi sul piano personale.

Affermava Dostoevskij (filosofo russo): “Se vuoi trasformare un uomo in una nullità, non devi fare altro che ritenere inutile il suo lavoro”. Ed è proprio il senso di inutilità legato alla condizione di disoccupato, o di precario, che alimenta il senso di non realizzazione di sé, che sgretola col tempo lo sviluppo di una parte di noi stessi ricca di risorse. La persona a cui va stretta la propria identità prova spesso sentimenti di depressione, infelicità. L’importanza del lavoro va considerata su due fronti: come mezzo per sostenersi e sopravvivere, come mezzo per definirsi, per diventare autenticamente se stessi.

Non è dunque una forma di felicità poter amare il proprio lavoro? Lo stato dovrebbe mettere nella condizione di trasformare una propria passione, un proprio interesse, una propria competenza in un lavoro; quando questo non è possibile si dovrebbe cercare almeno di valorizzare la risorsa umana all’interno di un contesto in modo da farle utilizzare o scoprire i propri talenti. Se diamo valore ad una persona, la persona darà valore al suo lavoro e il lavoro valorizzerà lei: si innescherà quel circolo per cui un sentimento di realizzazione di sé andrà a spingere su un sentimento di realizzazione del paese.
